Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do you require pre-employment drug screens and/or background checks?

Yes, background checks are required for all of the job positions, while drug screens are randomly conducted. Many of our job positions are direct care positions, which require our employees to work closely with vulnerable populations. New hires are required to complete a criminal background check and physical exam. Depending on the job position, a new hire may be required to take a pre-employment drug screen.

Why do require a safe driving record?

Some of our job positions may require you to transport yourself and/or clients to various locations. Therefore, you need a valid driver’s license, car insurance, and a safe driving insurance record of no more than 3 points.

Career opportunities at Beacon of Hope include clinical, community support, and administrative employees. Administrative positions include clerical, intake, and screening duties. Community supports include driving, case management, mentoring, and PRP. Clinical positions include behavioral health professionals who are a mental health therapist, psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse, and substance abuse counselors, preferably with experience in addiction and/or co-occurring disorders.

Available Positions

Licensed Mental Health Counselor/Therapist

Licensed Counselor/Therapists are LCSW-C, LCPC, LCMFT, LMSW, LGPC, or LGMFT licensed professionals in good standing with their Maryland State Boards. Full and part-time positions are available. Travel is required for community-based clients. Substance abuse experience is preferred.

Responsible for: Counseling children, adolescents, and adults with emotional and behavioral health disorders. Complete psychosocial assessments, develop treatment plans, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of professions. Services are rendered at the office and/or a community-based setting such as school, library, clients’ residence, etc.

Minimum qualifications: MS/MA program in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field. Must have a minimum of two years of direct care and work experiences in a mental health setting. Licensure: LCSW-C, LCPC, LCMFT, LMSW, LGPC, or LGMFT. Active/In Good Standing license with the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners or the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists. A Maryland motor vehicle license, car insurance coverage, safe driving record, and availability of personal vehicle for work required.

Hours: Full-time, Part-time.

Psychiatrist/Psychiatric Nurse-CRNP
Psychiatrists and CRNPs are licensed professionals in good standing with their Maryland State Boards. Full, part time, and PRN positions are available. Must have psychiatric and/or substance abuse experience.

Responsible for: Complete medical and psychiatric diagnostic evaluations and assessments of clients. Prescribe medications to treat mental, emotional, and/or behavioral disorders. Collaborate with psychotherapists, psychiatric nurses, or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress of clients.

Minimum qualifications: Medical or Doctoral degree from an accredited medical institution. Current and good standing licensure as a M.D. to practice in the State of Maryland by the State Board of Medical Examiners. Prefer: Board certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Board certified in General Psychiatry. Master’s degree in Nursing with specialty in psychiatry, medicine, and psychiatric clinical specialist certification. Current and good standing Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) license in the State of Maryland. Have DEA Certification and State of Maryland Controlled Substance (CDS) Certification. At least two years of work experience in psychiatry.

Hours: A minimum of 20 hours per week.

Licensed Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor
Licensed Substance Abuse Counselors are LCADC-S, LCADC, LGADC, CSC-AD, and CAC-AD licensed professionals in good standing with the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists. Full and part-time positions are available. Travel may be required for community-based clients. Basic knowledge of substance abuse and dual diagnosis is required.

Responsible for: Complete screening assessments and evaluations, develop treatment plans, lead group sessions, teach coping skills to clients, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of professions. Services are rendered at the office and/or a community-based setting such as school, library, clients’ residence, etc.

Minimum qualifications: Licensure: LCADC-S, LCADC, LGADC, CSC-AD, and CAC-AD. Active/In Good Standing license with the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists. A Maryland motor vehicle license, car insurance coverage, safe driving record, and availability of personal vehicle for work required.

Hours: Full-time, Part-time, Rotating Saturday day shifts and on-call duties.

Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) Coordinator
PRP Coordinators serve as mentors/coaches to children, adolescents, and adults with behavioral and rehabilitative health needs. Must have a minimum of three years of mental health experiences and a high school diploma. Full and part-time positions are available.

Responsible for: Teach, counsel, and support youth and adults with a serious and persistent mental illness. Assist clients to achieve their rehabilitative treatment goals by educating, modeling, and providing support with a variety of life skills including, but not limited to, money management, medication management, substance abuse education, independent living, housing assistance, and interpersonal skills development. This is a community-based job position, in which services are rendered at the clients’ preferred choice such as school, library, home, etc.

Minimum qualifications: PRP Coordinators working with youth, must have a minimum of three years of direct care and work experiences with emotionally disturbed youth. Education: A Maryland motor vehicle license, car insurance coverage, safe driving record, and availability of personal vehicle for work required. Education: High school diploma, GED, Associate, Bachelor, Master, or Doctorate.

Hours: Full-time, part-time, flexible schedule.
